Patil's resignation comes as a late response and at a very crucial time. At least the thick skinned dress conscious politician who cared more for the salutes and prestige of being high ranked minister.
The displeasure and anger in me was uncontrollable on many occasions during his tenure. The worst comment a home minister could make as a cheif of internal security is "We have information that attacks are being planned, however we do not have specific information however we do not know when, where and how." A primary school student will not hesitate to point out that why we need intelligence if we know answers for such specific information for questions like when where and how.
Out of all the spending of millions of rupees on IB and intelligence is to crack those questions. Whatever may be overall what a disastrous role he played and showcased his incomptency and complacency.
Go away Patil and dont try to be in politics and public service you are a disaster.

National Security Guards - Mumbai response
There are many questions that are currently on many Indians mind one such question is why National Security Guards (NSG), which is an elite commando force trained exactly to tackle situation in Mumbai on November 26th 2008. It is interesting to note that the NSG was created under the National Security Guard Act of 1985 is supposed to react very swiftly before the terrorist understand and react.
To quote Col. V.K.Dutta former official of NSG, "Surprise doesn't mean that the terrorists don't know we are coming. It is just that we have chosen the when, how and where. And it is with our chosen technique and weapon," (Ref. Bharat-Rakshak).
If NSG is trained to arrive at site of situation even before terrorist realize their presence, why in Mumbai such a grand arrival was telecasted and made into a grand publicized event.
If I were the strategist, I would not let the word that NSG is arriving and even if word goes out, I would rumor a late arrival while elite commandos are already at Taj, Oberoi and at Nariman house.
It was painful to see the late arrival and in BEST buses. The complete failure of police efforts between 10.30 PM and 7.30 AM is a crucial factor for prolonged battle. Of course this can only be attributed to shock and lack of morale that police and ATS underwent due to death of Karkare, Saluskar and Amte.
Whatever may have happened, I was always perturbed to see that millions of tax-payer money spent on training of NSG is made waste by safely gaurding them in a strong 'safe' (in Haryana).
Our politicians and mighty IAS beuraucrats never learn from past mistakes (be it Kandahar hostage crisis or Parliament attack or Akshardham) to make sure NSG's presence immediately.
